Behind the Shade: The Making of Our Handmade Balinese Parasols
"In a world that’s moving fast, sometimes all we need is a little shade and a story worth slowing down for."
Tucked away in the heart of Bali’s artisan villages, each Collectiviste parasol begins its life not as a product, but as a work of living culture.
A Sacred Craft
Balinese ceremonial parasols, known locally as tedung, have long held spiritual significance. Traditionally used in temple offerings and village processions, they are symbols of protection, reverence, and cosmic harmony. Today, their beauty and symbolism remain, lovingly translated into timeless garden décor.

Handmade From Tip to Tassel
Every Collectiviste parasol is entirely handmade by skilled artisans. The bamboo frames are shaved, steamed, and bent using age old methods. The intricate stringing underneath the canopy is a meditative task that takes hours of focused attention and steady hands.
Once assembled, the poles are carefully painted by hand, often using motifs passed down through generations.

FAQs: What to Know Before You Order
Are the parasols waterproof?
The fabric is canvas based and suitable for light outdoor use. We recommend storing the parasols indoors when not in use to preserve their colour and detailing.
Can they be used in the garden year round?
These parasols are best suited for seasonal use or sunny days. Their natural materials prefer dry storage during rainy or windy months.
Do they come with a stand?
No, stands are sold separately. Each parasol pole is standard diameter and compatible with most weighted parasol bases.
How heavy are they? Will they blow over?
They are lightweight enough to move easily but will need a secure base in breezy conditions. Decorative tassels can catch the wind, so securing them is advised.
Is any assembly required?
Yes, a small amount of assembly is needed but, don't worry, it’s quick and simple.
How are they different from typical umbrellas?
These parasols are completely handmade, from the bamboo frame to the intricate string webbing and hand-painted pole. Each one takes several days to complete and no two are identical.
